Car Help! It Stopped, why?

I drive a 93' Chevy Camaro, so i was driving and my friend was in the back seat and jumped to the front seat. While doing that she kicked the gear shift so it went from drive to neutral while i was driving! All the sudden the car started to slow down. So i braked to a stop put it back on Drive and it wouldn't work. So i just turned off the car and turned it on again, and it worked. But i'm curious as to what happened that made the car stop. Does anybody know?
 
it was probably the park/neutral switch that made the car do that. when the shifter went into neutral it probably triggered the switch for safety and cautionary reasons
