car help im 15 only but help!?

well im 15 i learn to drive next year, and in this movie i see him always pulling some like thing down and up in his car, its like in the middle than all the sudden he speeds up, what does this do anyways? is it hard to use

see they pull the thing up as soon as the race starts, i know its a movie, but the truck my dad has doesnt have that
how come at the beginning they all pull it to the top what does it do

Its called a stick

Stick shift you know?

It is for manual cars, not automatics.

So if you live in the U.S or pretty much anywhere but Europe, you wont need to use it.

Manuals are a lot harder to drive, I would recommend having someone teach you when you can drive. Balancing the clutch is difficult for new car drivers.
 
Thats Nitros. Nitros is a tank put into the car that is connected to your intake to make your car go faster .I have one .But their expensive.
 
Lol that is not nitrous! They just started off. That is the gearshift that happens to be on cars with high acceleration also. They just shifted from Park to Drive really fast since they were happening to race :o
 
Its a Manual Transmission which is known by lots of names. Stick, then also the type 5speed 6speed 4speed etc... With Auto Transmission it shifts for you. With Manual you have an extra food pedal left of brake that you have to hold in while you shift. The movie speeds things up so it looks like they are shifting really fast but in real life your not unless its a drag car. In the movie you sent is all the drivers shifting.

FYI when your already moving and they change gears and speed up real fast normally this is called down shifting. Puts your RPM higher which makes you go faster to a point.(hard to explain) like.. If your going up hill in 4th gear and your car starts to slow down(kinda like semi trucks) then you wuold down shift into 3rd and it would give ya that extra little bit of boost. When you start going to fast or get on flat ground again then you would go back into 4th
