car has loud knocking?

can anyone help>>>my mondeo 51 plate 1.8 petrol as a loud banging noise which is so loud i carnt find where it is coming from it drove then all of a sudden just cut out.it will not start at all now but will go off a tow i even tryed to jump start it and still wont start any ideas what it could be please and how to get it started
 
ok heres a quick test knock bad if it sounds like someone driving a nail with a hammer think new motor.. if its like someone clicking their nails on a table top by be a oil change so it wil not stsrt an dit knock best advice cal a tow truck have it taking to a shop or junk yard
