But the sound goes away after 2 - 5 minutes. But when the car is shut off and started again, it will make the loud chipping sound again. My car is an infiniti g35 coupe with 70k miles (04). I asked a pep boys person and he has told me he wasnt sure but wanted me to change the engine belt for $140. He told me it might make the sound go away, but it also may not. Does any body know if it might be the belt or the alternator?

Forgot to mention that this noise came after I changed my battery. When I first changed the battery, the car turned off couple of times/days but started to function correctly after few days.
