I have a 2002 VW Jetta with 120k miles. It has the usual wear and tear for a car of that age, but it keeps needing major repairs. So far this year... Air pump, air mass meter, cruise control, tires, alternator, and front axles, totaling over $2k. That's just in the last 6 months. I desperately want to get rid of this piece of crap, but I owe $8500 on it to my parents. I just got it appraised at the VW dealership, they said they would give me $5000 for it, but that's still too low. I can't afford a new car payment ($300-$400/month) on top of still owing my Dad $3500 on a car I would no longer own. What should I do? Any ideas? Any hints? Anything I could negotiate with a dealer about? How do I get a lower car payment, or a payment schedule greater than 60 months? Thanks!
