Ok so this is an experience or opinion question. I am looking at a 2003-2005 Mazda 6s or a 2001-2003 BMW 330i. The cars really aren't even in the same category, but I can't decide between the two. They both perform amazingly and have get up and go. Reliability is a concern. Mazda's seem to do well, and of course BMW has its record. My question I quess is can i even do things like change the oil at home? Are parts hard to come by? Are either servicable at home? Can local mechanics work on either? Or do I have to take them in to the dealers to get them worked on. I've only owned American cars to date, and have loved them for their cheapness in fixability. Also any other opinions about the car in general are welcome. THanks

Ive driven bmws all my life, so its normal.

I can say for experinece too cause i owned a 2002 330i. which i traded in last year.

I use to be that kind of person where you just bring it into the dealership, my paretns still do it, but i find it fun.

Maintenance on bmw is on the high side, i started to have problems around 90K which costed in repairs of 5-6K (on mulitple jobs) but thats the most ive ever paid, and that was done by the dealer!

Parts are obtainable through the internet, or your local dealer, (Become a member of bmwcca and get a 10% discount) its EASSSSSSSY as pie to change oil, brakes, and sprak plugs. the rest, like my A/c problems was all done by dealer!

BMW's are the best cars ive ever driven, they are fun to drive , best handeling cars! i say it is worth it.

Do not get a bmw if you dont want to keep up with it, casue then it will cost you big time. if you are worried about high price parts, steer away.

Never owned a mazda 6, seem like nice cars, made by japanese and thats a good thing!

I know they are cheap to repair, more reliable than a used bmw.

Bottom line, if price/ maintenance is not an issue choose the bmw! mazdas are great cars aswell!

good luck!
