I have a 2001 Saturn L200. I recently bought a new head unit to replace the factory stereo. It's a Sony xplod cdx-gt200. It says it will supply 52 watts x 4. I want to buy alpine type s speakers for my car. 6.5" for the front and 5.25" for the back. I was originally going to buy the type r speakers but was told that my head unit would not power the type r without a separate amp. Is this true?
Also, in the summer, I'm going to buy my friends alpine type s 12" subs. What is the cheapest amp that will power two alpine type s 12s to the max rms? I want to get the most boom for the cheapest price. I believe I would need a 600w monoblock amp since the type a subs are 300w rms each. Is this right?
I'm new to car audio so any help and clarification would be much appreciated!
