Car audio, One 12" sub or two sounds better?

I wanted to put subs in my car but Im not sure which to put in. I can get 1 12" sub at 1000w rms, or I can get 2 12" subs at 400 rms a piece. So they are close to the same wattage, but its just which will sound better? 1 sub at 1000 or 2 at 800?
 
They will both sound good. The only thing I am thinking is you might get more spl out of two subs rather one. Not sure if this is true but just a thought because you would have 2 subs pushing out air through two ports instead of just one port. I actually would go with two 600 watt rms subs. That's what I have in my car it sounds really good. but then again its personal preference some people like 2 subs and others like just one. Me personally I like 2, that's just me though.
 
honestly no one can make this call but u. head out to some stereo shops and hear it for yourself. I did a lot of research and hit up car shows and stereo custom shops before I got into systems. In audio, no two ears are alike, unless they're on the same head.
with your dilemma space is also a factor so for me I'd go with a powerful 12 ported.
