I have a 4 gauge amp kit thats been wired in my suv for about 8 months now. I upgraded to a 1000 watt kicker amp two months ago and ive noticed that the power wire is melting right behing the fuse holder. To simplify things (Its getting too hot). My question is why is it getting to hot when its a thick 4 gauge and would I be smart to order the 0 Gauge? what should I do???

I doubt that the size of the wire is the problem. When you get melted insulation or plastic at a fuse holder, it's usually caused by resistance in the connection between the fuse holder and the wire. You might have corrosion, charring on the metal terminals, or a loose connection. Your best option is to replace the fuse holder with a new one, cut away a bit of the wire so you're starting with fresh wire at the connection, and make sure it's screwed down tightly.
