Last night I got in a very bad car crash. I am 16 years old, and have had my license for 6 months, no record or tickets. It was about 8:30 at night and I was driving down a main street in LA (ventua blvd) and I was coming down a hill at about 45 mph (speed limit is 40) and I was approaching a green light which turned yellow as I was about to pass the intersection, and I could have gone thru the yellow if i did not hesitate or slow down; but i did!! It was a T intersection and i was going down the continuous side of the street and there was a car at the red light which is a small side street. When the light turned yellow, I saw the other car begin to creep up, so I slammed on my brakes trying to stop, but i ended up skidding thru the intersection, the other car slammed on his brakes also right when he began to go and saw me coming , and I hit it side of his old pickup truck and I ran onto the curb and knocked down a street light and my airbags deployed. I got of of the car myself and waited for the paramedics. He began to inch up past the white line before his light was green and that caused me to slam on the breaks. Neither of us when to the ER, he drove away with his friend in a separate car, and I later wen to the ER to be checked out with my mom but i had no significant injured, just bumps and bruises. I have Insurance and an Umbrella policy up to $2 mil.
Anyways im wondering how this works,
1) Do I go to court and tell the story
2) who is most likely be at fault (im 16 and he is like 40)
3) WIll my license be revoked (jw, casue its not like I want to drive now anyways)
4) I heard I need to pay the the streetlight I hit, true?
5) Is it in his favor because im so young, i wasn't on the phone, texting, or any music.
I dont know if this matters at all, but i was driving my moms 2004 Mercedes that she gave to me and he had a very old pick up truck. My car is totaled and his was damaged in the back and sides, also his bike broke. He said he had no injuries, but im worried he will make something up. When i gave the report to the police i barely told them anything, casue i was in such a state of shock.
