Captain America for 2009 !!

Well I remember reading a Captain America titled "The last Red Skull story!" (or something like that). In it he's now an old man ('cos he didn't have the serum like Steve) and he just died. Horray! :D Of course Marvel probably brought him back from the dead (like Phoenix).
But one things for sure, he was the most boring super villain ever!!!

(cue totally fake German accent) Nein American pig! I will kill you before you can stop me from pushing this doomsday button that will destroy the World and bring in a new race of Nazi supermen Ha, ha, ha!

(cue totally fake American accent) OH, NO! I've got to throw my shield... just... right... THERE!

(cue totally fake German accent) Aaaarrgh! NEIN!! You've usurped my plans AGAIN! You will rue this day imperialist lackey!!!

Ok, he wasn't that boring, worth a few laughs!

Captain America could definitely appeal to a modern audience if done right.
There is the risk of turning it into a flag-waving bit of propaganda (which would suck), but I think (hope) they'll try and avoid this.
A much better film is about Cap waking up in the present to find that that the things that he fought for have fallen by the wayside. he fought a war to preserve our freedoms- would he be happy with the way the world turned out after WWII? Is there a place for him in the modern world?
Given how America is viewed by the world that might make for a more interesting film. And I think you could do that and still have a big action film (I'd love a recreation of the open pages of the very first Ultimates comic where Cap leaRAB the allies against the Nazis).

I've always thought that Brad Pitt should play...The Red Skull! Think about it- he's the Nazi's answer to Captain America. they pick a good looking aryan specimen and it goes horribly wrong. Instead of being used as an iconic image to defeat Cap he has to do it out of the public gaze while he watches the world idolising Captain America. It gives his character more depth than him just being an evil nazi.

Well I have to agree if done the right way Captain America could be an interesting film but I still dont believe that this one superhero would have the box office appeal. Anyway we will have to see how it turns out!

MARVEL:

OTHER:
The Flash (2006)
Wonder Woman (2007)
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army(2007)
Batman; Dark Knight (2008)

I think that list maybe slightly out of date as Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Flash and Sub-Mariner are not being released this year!
Also Hellboy 2 has been confirmed as being released in 2008 also Wolverine is rumoured to be released then as well!

Magneto movie is also missing from that list. And i'm sure SFX mag this month mentioned something about an X-Men: Mutant Academy movie being in production too.

Here some new info about Captain America from the Hollywood Reporter website:

"Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are in negotiations to pen Marvel Studios' "First Avenger: Captain America." The dealmaking occurs about a week after Joe Johnston boarded the project as director.

Marvel's Kevin Feige is producing.

Created in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon for Timely Comics, Captain America is the heroic alter ego of Steve Rogers, who is rejected by the Army for being too sickly and undergoes an experiment that takes him to the pinnacle of human form. Paired with an indestructible shield, he becomes a symbol of the war effort, fighting Nazis and villainous scientists like the Red Skull.

In modern times, the character starred in his own long-running comic series and also was a charter member of Marvel's superteam, the Avengers.

Kicking off with "Iron Man," Marvel Studios' slate of movies -- including "Thor" and the "Iron Man" sequel -- is building toward an "Avengers" movie set for release in 2011, in which the characters from the films team for one big adventure. "Captain America" is scheduled for release May 6, 2011.

Marvel's "Captain America" will be a World War II-set movie, and the character will appear in the modern day-set "Avengers."

Markus and McFeely, repped by UTA, worked on "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and its sequel, "Prince Caspian." The duo also wrote HBO's "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers."
