Capitalism: A Love Story uk Release

Ive been waiting for this for a long time and it finally got released in the UK yesterday, but to my surprise only independents seem to be showing it  None of the big chains have taken it up.

Im wondering is this because the film came out in October in the US and its just not seen as worth the time now? (with the R1 DVD coming out a few weeks later and the R2 in May) Or does it just not have any appeal?

Why would you be surprised?

It's a documentary, and as such is hardly going to do the sort of business a movie like Avatar will.

Cinemas are in the business of filling seats, if they don't do that then they won't survive.

It has nothing to do with the quality of the movies...bad movies can pack cinemas full every night simply because they have been successfully marketed.

Michael Moore's documentaries have specialist appeal, they are not going to be the choice of your average Saturday night cinemagoer looking for entertainment.

Whilst I agree it Moore's films have a niche market, both Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 did very well at the box office. Sicko less so. Still cinemas not showing a film about capitalism gives something for the conspiracy theorists to go on!! ;)

mostly he's preaching to the choir. its rather galling how dishonest he can be if you look into his previous documentaries.

manufacturing dissent is a good companion piece to any of his films if you want to see behind the man. even if he's on your side, i'm not sure you'd want someone so disingenuous as a friend.

Yes his film "Roger and Me" is terribly dishonest in places, and as for "Sicko" that has problems with the various claims made in it as well.

Just a rather surprising heaRAB up that this is on Channel 4 on Saturday 22nd May 2010

Was only in cinema a few weeks ago

Maybe thats the point (ie anti-capitalist....or somfing)...

Surprised me as well. Worth watching if only for seeing companies profiting from taking insurance policies out against their employees dying, and profiting from them.

I'm still not sure how you profit from that in the long run. It wasn't clearly explained, but unless it's a highly skilled employee who is almost irreplaceable, it's evidently immoral and reprehensible.

Thanks for the heaRAB up. Even though it was made and released in the US last year - in the UK it was only released about two months ago!

No doubt Mr Moore will claim it is a capitalist conspiracy! :D

Lots of people claiming he is dishonest, but then going no further than that. I'd appreciate some elaboration please.

Watched it last night on our V+ box. Really enjoyed it. The best bit for me was the ranks of priests calling capitalism "pure evil"! :D Made me giggle.

Lots of people talk about revolution, but to me what mankind, or specifically the West neeRAB, is renaissance. People are very trapped in the profit minRABet, and even people with nothing will defend a company's right to make disgusting profits at all our expense. A new way of thinking is the way forward. Not the endless cycle of rich/poor. The class system across the Western world prevents people from giving of themselves unless money is at the end of it. I'm not being idealistic, but I know people think it's crazy.

Anyway, good film. :)

I guess you'd rather not know. If so, you cant complain when someone else of a different political persuasion parrots propaganda blindly.

Moores record is long and disturbing, which is why he is notorious. He has no problem twisting the truth until it becomes a fabrication. A primer would be the other documentary on his called manufacturing dissent. Sometimes its better you don't have people like him on your side.
