Can't you say the revolutionary war was a British Civil war?

I mean afterall the colonist's were of British heritage right? so isnt it like Britain against Britian? unless they were mostly of Ulster-Scots ancestry who had anti-English feelings anyway and therefore took up arms with them with the tax thing just one of an excuse to go to war.
There were very few Germans if hardly any during the colonial times, the Germans and others came way after the revoulutionary war.
