Can't wait for the 3D fad to be over

Its spoiling films for me now. :mad:

Saw the new Alice in Wonderland film and seeing clips online and on TV I would have rather seen it in a high definition format than have a lower quality film shown with a couple of seconRAB here and there jump out at you.

I'm not knocking films designed specifically for 3d but it seems like every new film now is given a 3d effect as an afterthought.
 
3D is a distraction IMHO. For instance, it seemed to distract the entire cinema-going community into believing that Avatar was actually a decent film.

Having seen Up, Avatar, and Alice in Wonderland in 3D, I'm now of the opinion that I'll be going to 2D screenings from now on. not only does the colour-loss really grate on me (particularly with the likes of UP and Alice) but also the simple fact of wearing glasses distracts me from the experience. (I have 20-20 vision and only ever wear sunnies while driving).
 
I said the same thing earlier today.
With DVD's and Blu Rays coming out a few months after release there doesnt seem to be much need to rush out to see the newest films unless you want to see them in 3D.
 
I don't really like 3D either - I find it gimmicky. Plus I go to the cinema to feel relaxed and enjoy the story, I don't want to have to concentrate on certain things or have stuff in my face. Not really sure wearing my glasses and 3D glasses would be comfortable for the whole length of a film. I always go to the 2D versions.
 
I'm confused by the success of 3D.

So a few scenes have some extra depth to them. I don't see that as impressive or worth paying money for.

I actually like the gimmicky 'throw stuff at the screen' type 3D effects. At least that adRAB something I can't get in 2D. Most people seem to hate the gimmicky 3D effects. :confused:
 
Maybe that's because some people do believe that Avatar is a decent film? I'll grant you it's not brilliant, but the story was bearable without being too serious. It was fun.

The only downside I have found with 3d is that it seems to make my eyes tired - but it still looks far better than 2d, and can't really see how anyone would think otherwise?!
 
I'm not too fussed about 3D. I've seen 2 movies in 3D so far (Final destination & Avatar). I think it worked in final destination. For Avatar I think I would have preferred to see the 2D version as it didn't add much to it for. I plan on seeing Clash of the titans in 3D and I may see a few more films in the future so that I can make my mind up fully. But as it stanRAB im not that taken with it.
 
+1 about Avatar. A movie only makes that sort of money from multiple repeat viewings. I dont think 3D is enough on its own to account for that based on the fact that there have been quite a few 3D movies before it.

I found Avatar far less strenuous on the eyes than Bolt. I think because the 3D effect was more natural and less gimmicky. I reckon regular viewing of movies in 3D would aclimatise your eyes.

I think 3D TVs will make a big impact when they arrive - especially for gamers.
 
If you read my post then you will see that I don't like 3D however the gimmicky aspect is the only small thing that makes 3D any different.

My post points out two different aspects of 3D and my opinions on both.
 
Not many on here that will remember the 1950s, the "House Of Wax" 1953, was the big 3D one then plus a few others. Lots of cinemas just showed to 2D versions when the novelty eventually wore off. The glasses gave many veiwers headaches.
 
Hehe, my friend is almost blind in one eye and the 3D technology is completely useless to her!

I just realised my problem with 3D - it makes me want to go to the cinema to see something whereas before I'dve been happy to catch it on DVD - else I haven't seen it at its full potential. Obviously, that's what they want, but I just can't afford to see all these films - nor do I have the time to get a bus ride over there or nag my cinema-hating boyfriend to drive me! :D

Also there's an old fart in me crying out 'I enjoyed films perfectly well when they were 2D, thanks!' :eek:
 
I think it's surprisingly good. Seen a few 3D films. "Bolt" was good. "Half Blood Prince" @ IMAX was good too. And "My Bloody Valentine" was your typical run of the mill horror!



Technology has improved alot in the last 60 years!
