Yeah. Thats a good band name. Plus, you will totally ahve a "where'd we get the name" story to put on your first album......and promote wtf.com.

Another Version of Myself sounds like someone was trying too hard to think of a bandname. Not Quite Shane sounds like something that is already out there, but that's why it's good. It's familiar to people's ears already, and that could be really helpful.

I personally think Another Version of Myself is simply too long. It might be a great title to your debut album though. If you like the whole "version" thing because it sounds somewhat tech-ish, then I'd suggest something like Shane 2.0 or something that's easier to say/hear.
Not Quite Shane sounds good plus I think it plays on the fact that you might end up with others in a band. So you wouldn't have to change anything.

Personally I don't like Not Quite Shane, but then again I don't like alot of the band names out there.
Call your band, "One man gay pride band." You would instantly get the support of the gay community whether your music was good or not.
I don't know, people come up with band names just off the top of their heads. At least the local bands I know.

You just have to do things off the top of your head that sound good, and perhaps have a special meaning to you.

Maybe something like "Not Just Shane"? "Not Only Shane"?
I need to start looking at those big billboard ads on the highway or something: "Hot Slots".
A lot of people here seem to like "NotQuiteShane", AVOM got torn a new asshole by my friends. Maybe "Not_____Shane". Fill in the blank.
Maybe replace not with no, too. Or something like that. This is fun.
