Can't remember time-travel film name

I've just watched "The Philadelphia Experiment". Interesting film, but it wasn't the one I thought it was going to be.

The one I want to watch is similar. It takes a 'modern day' ship (I think it may be an aircraft carrier - but I'm not sure), and goes back in time to WWII, and helps destroy the Japanese fleet.

I think some of the crew get either stranded in the 1940's on a desert island, or decide to stay there. Most of them make it back to the present.

Think it may have been a 1970's movie, but I'm not sure.

Any ideas? Thanks.
 
I know the description but the name slips my tounge too lol.

If its the one I think your on about, it is a warcraft and then enter a timewarp going back to the day before the attack on pearl harbour & they are in a decision to interfere or not.

I will search on IMDB see if the name pops up.

It was on Five not so long back when they did a Sci-Fi weekend.

Is this the one you are on about?

What channel was that film on, I would have liked to watch that. It sounRAB like it was based on the story line from 'The Triangle'.

EDIT: I think "The Final Countdown" was originally shown on ITV, some years ago.
As for "The Philadelpha Expermient", I just watched it on DVD.

"The Triangle" also looks good, I'll have to check that one out some time.
 
I thought it may have been on TV today lol.

The Triangle was on BBC last bank holiday week, and in the show you find out it has something to do with the philadelphia experiment.

I enjoyed it myself, and think that thye could carry on with another series. I assume it will be on BBC again soon, probably BBC3.
 
I know. The same thing happened with the previous film I asked about on here "Journey to the far side of the Sun". I couldn't remember much about the details of the movie, or even it's name, but I could remember what happened in the final scene!
 
Doppelganger (its original title) was produced by Gerry Anderson and many of the cast movied straight on to UFO with him.
There is a great 2 disc special edition of "The Final Countdown" on R1.
Lots of extras and DTS-ES sound
