In the story a man gets two to three wishes. One of them is to stop the sun moving, like in the book of Joshua in the bible. He is able to use his last wish to undo his other wishes as everything on the surface of the earth is flung into the sky because of inertia.

My first guess was it was by Nathaniel Hawthorne, but I didn't find anything that matched. I'm fairly certain it was set in New England.

Thanks
