Can't play DVD on Windows Media Player, Need Plugin(s)?

My mac's hard drive failed and until i get that replaced i am using my moms PC. It's running XP and when it says i need a decoder plugin or something of the sort it sends me to a site where i'd have to pay for some plugin. Thats total bs, the computer should be able to play a DVD in the first place, i am not paying for something more. Anyway, is there anywhere i can get a free plugin that will allow me to watch the DVD on windows media play that i don't have to pay for?
