well i tried to root my G1 so i could move on to cyanogen6 but after a couple of steps into it when i restarted my phone it wouldn't connect to the google servers. it says "there is a problem communicating with the google servers." so now I can't even log into my G1. i have a data plan on my sim card and it still won't connect. the 3g thing at the top doesn't say 3g, it says "E". what could that mean?
thanks for any input!

so i discovered the E means edge. I'm new to androids and having mobile internet so what does this mean? Edge isn't fast enough to connect to the servers? I have had 3g coverage before in my house so I'm really confused lol.

I've never had 3G where I live, so I'm stuck on GPRS which is even slower than Edge. All of my phones connect to the servers almost instantly. You're talking about a tiny amount of data to establish a connection and should be very quick. It'll probably time out after about 30 seconds (hence 30 seconds is the longest you would ever expect a connection to take).

Problems connecting could be anything. Do you still have the correct APN settings in the phone to use mobile data? What about if you connect to WiFi? Same problem?

You can skip the sign in and when you go to the market to download an app it will try and sign you in through the market.

Here in the US my phone has taken between 6 -10 minutes to sign into the server several times.

There's gotta be a network issue surely? I mean that's not slow, that's plain not working for 10 minutes. It could be that Google's having problems, but I've never experienced this personally.

Surely CyanogenMOD allows you to register via WiFi?

If not, the answer is in this thread: http://rabroad.com/forums/f3/im-screwed-stuck-on-this-g1-issue-31694/

Crappp, I hate linux. Linux always makes things more complicated. basically i downloaded adb and i extracted it, but it won't let me install the usb drivers from the file android_usb.inf, when i right click there isn't an install option.

ok, so now i'm using a windows xp pc. i installed the driver for adb but now when i go to the command prompt and type cd \android it says "the system cannot find the path specified". so did i unzip it the wrong way? i'm new to unzipping and such so i don't know what i'm doing. is there anyway you can email me the adb file unzipped and ready to be downloaded so i can go straight to command prompt? as a favor? im just so lostttt and now i can't even use my phone.

im so sorry for all the posts, but i'm pretty sure i unzipped it correctly. the thing is that i don't know what to name the folder that i put the unzipped files too. in the guide it said to name it c:\adb but when i try to name the folder that, it then says a file name can't contain the characters :, ?, /, |, and other ones. so how do i name it c:\adb?
let's say i name the file unzippedadbfiles, then would i still have to type cd \android in the command prompt or no? if not, then what would i type in there i named my file unzippedadbfiles.

Right click the file you are trying to find the path for, click properties and on that screen you shoud see the path. Make sure you extracted the sdk. Mine is : C:\Users\M. Grant\Documents\android-sdk_r06-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools, that is to my tools folder in the sdk.
