Can't join the military with a dependent?

I'm due in August and the baby's father would like to join the air force. His mom's cousin who is a recruiter was telling them that you cannot join the military with a dependent anymore. His family keeps trying to get around this situation with ideas that do not sound pleasant to me. First off they came up with putting a random guys name down on the birth certificate...I said no...its illegal. Oh and I live in California by the way. Then they wanted him to sign his parental rights away but I said no because I need the financial help. Then they wanted him to sign his rights away to them but I said no because then they could get full custody.
Well I've been reading that when you sign parental rights away that you are still financially obligated. So then why would the military then allow him to join? Any information or other websites would be amazing. Thank you.
 
What a bunch of nonsence. What is happening is the babys fathers family is trying to get you to let him weasel out of paying any kind of support. He is 100% eligable for enlistment.
