Can't Hotsync

South Jersey

Everything worked fine the other day (last hotsync attempt). Today the T recognizes the hotsync cable but the computer does nothing.

T goes to the screen that says "Connecting with desktop using Cradle / Cable". After a bit of time T tells me that the connection cannot be established.

As I said - computer does absolutely nothing. The only thing that has happened since last sync was that I replaced a defective SD card in the T with a new one but I have not even put any data on the new card yet.

Help! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your help Carol. The Palm link is dead. The other link did it's diagnostic thing and found no errors. Thanks.

One time I called Palm help and they gave me this idea.

Close your hotsync icon in the systray on your desktop, then go to the start button your desktop, click on start ----> programs---->palm dekstop----->hotsynch manager to restart the hotsynch manager in your systray to make it active again.

Put your PDA in the cradle. Open up the preferences on your PDA and go to the Hotsync icon. Instead of pressing the hotsync on the cradle, make sure your "local" connection is enabled (it should be dark blue) and then actually press the synch icon on the screen. See if this works.

I experienced the same problem you are experiencing and and this fixed my problem at that time....

Whatever we have done did something! I did what you said and it acted like it was syncing (sp) but it seems hung up. The T says "Syncronizing Sync Get" and has said that for a few minutes now. Do you know what this means? Shoudl I "Cancel"?

At least the desktop knows it is connected now...some progress I guess. Thanks so far.

I would cancel and start all over seeing where this gets you. If this doesn't help, hopefully Paul or Jim will have some additional suggestions....

I canceled (it had actually stopped responding). I tried again and it worked. Right now...as long as worked...its ok. I'll have to see what happens next time.

Thanks again.

I will keep my fiingers crossed it is fixed...post again if it doesn't. There is a lot of knowledge here, I am sure there is help available.

Sorry I don't know what exactly happened in this situation bit I have found that sync tasks will get corrupted and then start to throw up all sorts of strange errors. My experience has been that doing an overwrite sync immediately will usually solve the problem. If, for example, you most recent data is on your Palm, set hotysn for a one-time action of "Handheld overwrites desktop". This will usually reset the sync task and you can then sync normally in the future. I've never been able to figure out exactly waht causes the sync task to become corrupt but it seems to happen about once a year for me, usually after some kind of problem with a program not installing correctly.
