Can't get my honda shadow 600 to start?

Ok so my boyfriend and I just bought this bike this last weekend, he heard it run a year ago and said it sounded awsome. We've replaced the battery, and cleaned out the gas tank. We've painted it already as well. We're going to try the spark plugs and wires tonight, but they look new. Does anyone have any idea what eles it could be. We can use all the help we can get, we're not use to working on bikes just cars. thanks
