My car's cigarette lighter didn't work. So I took out the console, and saw that the positive screw-on wasn't connected, only the ground. It took some work, but I got the positive lead connected and then I guess I connected the ground and it made a big spark.
I still kept it connected and tried it out, didn't work. Then, my clock also died. So I figured it had to be a fuse. I replaced the fuse in the fuse box, then tried again. I have a circuit tester, so after replacing the fuse had no success, I tested some of the circuits.
My tool shows that the fuse is giving out power. I figured out which wire connects to the clock and cigarette lighter and followed it back to a big connector (relay?). It was quite difficult, but I separated the connector, which is basically two plugs with multiple wires on each plug. I tested each individual socket on one plug (obviously the other would have no power as it connects from the components). There are eight sockets total, and interestingly about half of them work. The wire that powers the components does not work, among a couple others.
Given that information, does anyone have an idea of where the problem is?
Thanks!
PS: I don't know if it makes a difference, but the car is a 1984 ford mustang svo
