Can't decide

Which bike should I pull the trigger on? Currently have an 1198S for my serious canyon riding so big hp is not my biggest concern here, looking for a great handling bike with a nice soul.

2008 tricolor monster $14,600
2009 m1100s msrp
2009 streetfighter msrp

leaning towards the tri-color

The fuel capacity on the monsters is the only negative thing that keeps coming up in my head. I ride mostly in the Ozark mountains and fuel stations can be sparce. Any way to increase the fuel capacity on the monsters with any aftermarket pieces?

I think the streetfighter wouldnt be too much a departure from your 1198s, i think the tri-color is gorgeous...so that would be my pick. I dont know much about the monsters aftermarkets either. I dont think you can really go horribly wrong with any of them.

Like you I do most of my riding in the ozarks (but on an 848).

I have some what come to the same comclusion as you about the bike but I was thinking of getting a hypermotard to bomb round the super twisty stuff on.

I mean how much fun would it be on a motorard on the pigs trail, I think it is the perfect weapon for that area.

Personally, and I know I am going to get flamed for a different marque, I would love to get the Benelli Cafe Racer.

I dont know why, but that thing keeps appealing to me. If I were to get another Duc, I would definitely look at a hyper...it just looks like too much fun.

I have a 1098S and a monster tri-colour and they are completely different bikes. Power for the 1098S, but the Monster will still get-up-and go and handles nicely, and there is still a nice exhaust note. I still have the stock pipes. But the biggest difference is the riding position. If I want tot take an 80 mile ride up the side of the Delaware River, sometimes having to cruise along at 40 - 50 mph, I take the Monster. I wouldn't do this ride on the 1098S.

I would want a totally different bike, as the 1198 takes care of the speed fix.

Personally, I would get a Multistrada. In order, it would more than likely be, aside from the race bike....

BMW R1200GS
Multistrada
Hypermotard
