Can't connect desktop to wireless Internet?

I have 2 desktops, one downstairs where the belkin 54g router is and one upstairs. I wanted to connect the one upstairs via the wireless adapter. I installed the software from the disk and I plugged in the adapter, but it still won't connect any suggestions..?

And yes, my modem/router is turned before any trolls start to ask.

Have you restarted the computer after installing the software as you are meant to do?

Have you setup the correct encryption for the Router, IE the corect TKIP key/passphrase?
