Can't buy apps without creditcard

Can someone tell me more about the problem that people can only pay by cerditcard in for example the Netherlands (where I live). I want some apps where I need to pay for but I haven't got a creditcard
 
I know from living in the Netherlands for a short time that most debit cards are Maestro.

Google says the following:

Does your bank have a debit card offering with Solo or Visa Electron?

Kind of silly Google doesn't support Maestro??

I have heard of prepaid credit cards working (e.g. Visa or Mastercard Gift cards)...

GWK Travelex in Schiphol carried this, I'm assuming other loctations in the Netherlands should.
