Nothing specific except for the usual life stressors. I'm almost 50, and experienced anxiety bouts a couple of times a year for the last 20 years. This particular bout is bad because I've been experiencing insomnia for about 3 months.

I'm actually prescribed Xanax, which helps me sleep somewhat, but I rarely get more than 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I have health insurance and my provider furnished me a list of about 30 Psychiatrist, but I was unable to make an appointment in a reasonable amount of time.

Many Doc's aren't accepting new patients and many will only schedule many weeks from now. :(

I was told don't know if it is true - my sister in law mentioned to me to get a therapist rather than a pshycologist. A therapist offers all kinRAB of advice and pshycologist just listens. Make sure you know what your taking for medication - really educate yourself by surfing the web. Some of these anxiety medications have strong side effects.

Therapist and psychologist are the same thing. Psychologist (the one you have therapy sessions with): Psychiatrist (the one that perscribes drugs)

There is a very good book by Edmund J Bourne, PH.D
It's called "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" There are a lot of very helpful techniques and information in this book that you will relate to as an anxiety / depression sufferer, this is a good alternative ,especially if you would like to try an avoid the perscription med route. Actually the Psychiatrist that are saw for a bit told me about it.

I'm not surprised. I get the feeling that the mental health profession is not sufficiently lucrative to motivate more medical students to choose psychiatry. Also, in my experience most of the really good psychiatrists choose not to work with HMOs and do not accept insurance payments directly. If you can afford it I suggest that you see a psychiatrist outside your insurance plan.

How badly do you feel that you need to see a psychiatrist? Has your general practitioner tried to help you in the meantime?

I don't want to talk to a therapist to determine if I was hugged enough as a child while I'm suffering chronic anxiety/insomnia.

I want a M.D. to give me meRAB to get my sleep pattern back on track.

I would just see your PCP. And see what they can do to bridge you until you see a psychiatrist.

Well, you said you're already taking Xanax. What dosage? You could ask for Zyprexa or Seroquil for sleep. They do the trick. Course, they'll also make you gain weight. My Xanax and nitequil work for me.

Hi, I'm an anxiety sufferer for many years, tried many perscriptions and natual remedies.

How long have you been anxious, anything out of the ordinary going on in your life that would make you anxious?

Went to see a PCP today ... well at least a Resident working in a Dr's office.

Was prescribed 5 mg Arabien even though he knows I'm currently taken xanax.
