Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT - Flash not working!?

I have had the camera for several years and I am unsure if I have changed a setting somewhere or if the flash is burned out/broken. When looking through the view finder I see the little green lightning bolt symbol in green.

Any help is appreciated.
 
If you've been doing photography for many several years you know as well as I that these things don't last for ever.

Perhaps you indeed changed a setting but if you've not been in there perhaps you just need a new flash bulb - it happens with time.
