Canon EOS Digital 550D beginners advice ?

so i have had my canon for a little while but haven't got used to the effects and features. any advice, effects you like best, etc. thank you x
 
Read the manual. Don't use green box auto or scene modes. Only use P, Tv, Av, and M modes, and you do need to learn how they work.

RAW>>jpeg, always shoot RAW (or RAW+jpeg) unless you are shooting a wedding...which as a beginner you shouldn't be shooting anyway.

Never shoot black and white. Always use colour RAWs and convert them to BW on a computer.
