Canon EOS 550d for film-making?

I am a student and love to make films. I have been making them for several years now and have a fair bit of experience, having done some paid projects, some work helping at a T.V. studio, and plenty of my own movies. I am very proficient with both Final Cut Studio and Adobe Premiere.

I am thinking at the moment about getting a canon eos 550d in a few months for mainly video and also some photos, my current camera, a Canon HV30, is broken.

I would also be willing to pay out for some audio equipment also, something like the zoom h4n.

I want to get a dslr for video because of the versatility offered by interchangeable lenses and amazing picture quality. I don't really need to buy a fancy lens, but would like to be able to have options when it comes to how i record things. I want to know if I should buy a kit, or just buy the body and purchase lenses separately. I would probably want to buy just one or two lenses to start with. What lenses would be a good start for film? Is the Canon 550d a good choice?

Thanks so much for your help, please only answer if you really know what you're talking about.
