Canceled Cartoons You Want Revived

The WB wasn't a place where primetime animation thrived sadly (well I guess the networks in general aren't great places for adult animation). I was disappointed when both Invasion America and Mission Hill failed.

Can't believe I saw Danny Phantom and Juniper Lee mentioned but Jake Long get the shaft. Unlike these two, there's actually more this one could of done, but we'll never get to know, considering that it actually makes more than $20 to make a cartoon. I'd of loved to of seen how Jake and Rose would of adapted to each other after the "Homecoming" incident, now that Rose has regained memory, and how their relationship could of grown from it.

I'd of also loved to of seen more Oracle Twins, since we only got two appearances of them in season 2, which is a shame, since they were easily the best part of season 1. And Spud always rules.
 
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I liked the 'silly' approach to the Sonic series, but the animation quality was horrible. I think they should bring it back, but give it a complete rehaul in the animation department. Make the wenviroments look similar to locations from the games and put the characters in their Sonic Adventure style designs.

I don't think they should have characters like Knuckles, Amy, Big, etc. in the limelight though. The one thing I loved about Adventures was how well the Sonic/Tails relationship was played out. Tails was actually a character that you liked, and not the annoying twit you see in the games and cartoons nowadays.

Knuckles and the others should just appear in cameos or season finales, but never be vital characters. The show should always revolve around Sonic & Tails.

I think most audiences today wouldn't recognize characters like Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts (they both appeared in Sonic 2) and so they should be replaced with Shadow, Rouge and Metal Sonic.


Invader ZIM: As much as i'd like to see ZIM return, the unaired season 2 was a bit of a mess and I think the show, if it continued, would've gone really downhill.

I didn't care much for the 'big' episodes Jhonen made, like Tak, Backseat Drivers, Frycook of Doom, and the planned Invader Dib movie. I dont like all the outer space nonsense. Just focus on ZIM being an idiotic alien who uses his technology to rip out eyeballs, steal organs, send pigs back in time, and mutate people into bologna, all while battling an insane child who has a another dimension stuck inside of his gigantic head.
 
Swat Kats needs a revival badly. That show had so much awesome it could barely contain it all. I mean if they can revive Biker Mice from Mars then the hard-rocking fury of Swat Kats can and should be back on the air.
 
Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM):
I actually would prefer a movie to finish off the series than another season. And I hate cliffhangers.

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series (MTV):
Some didn't like this series, but I did, and I just can't stand the fact this show ends on a cliffhanger. Not only is it a cliffhanger, it's a cliffhanger where Peter quits being Spider-Man and I just don't like the feeling of it. This show just looked really cool in motion and I think Neil Patrick Harris played a really good Spider-Man (even better than Josh Keaton, not that I don't like him). I feel we should have at least gotten two more seasons out of it, if not just one more. MTV really wasn't the place for this show.

Invader ZiM:
This show had so much potential, and after reading the plans Jhonen had for the show it really is a shame Nick treated it the way they did. Though they sure don't have a problem making money off the various merchandise out there.

Beast Wars:
This show wasn't canceled, it ended and I'm ok with that. But, I'd love to see somebody else put there own spin on this Transformers universe.

Batman Beyond:
I love the concept of a future Batman, and I just feel this series was too short. I think there so many more stories to tell, like what happened to Blight after the submarine sunk? Where led to believe he died since he never came back in season 2 or 3, but I think they should've done more Blight episodes. I'd love to see someone else take a stab at Batman Beyond but, sadly I don't think it will ever happen.

Darkwing Duck:
I want a Darkwing revival and at the same time I don't cause I'm affraid they'd ruin it. But it'd still be interesting.


Those are really the shows I want to see brought back or reinvisioned. I'm sure I have others, but these are the ones I really want.
 
Jem - I'm actually doing a Jem and Friends synopsis-style fanfic at the JemCon website that just started its second season of 65 episode. But I've got to warn you, The Holograms and Misfits are joined by a lot of other Hasbro characters and D-list Marvel heroes and villains, making it more like a musical superhero series!

But, if Jem were to be revived, have Christy Marx team up with the guys from Man of Action (Ben 10, Ben 10 Alien Force), and have the animation be similar to the Ben 10 franchise, and get the original actors for the roles except for Kimber and Aja. Cathianne Blore died in 2000. And, Hasbro/CN Studios should produce the series.

Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars - I would love to see this series come back to TV, but it's got be under the auspices of Neal Adams, whose Continuity Studios co-produced the series.

Defenders of the Earth - Mandrake, Flash Gordon, the Phantom! Who didn't love this series! Maybe MoonScoop and Hearst Entertainment can join forces to revive this show!

King Arthur and the Knights of Justice - That show definitely needs to come back just as much as Mighty Max does! I was a fan of that show!

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes - Nuff Said!
 
A lot of these have already been stated so I'll just add my little reasons for wanting them back.

The Critic: My friend gave me his DVD set of this series and while it took a while for me to warm up to it, I came to love the characters and the use of parodies, dream sequences, and cutaways. The webisodes had the charm of the series, but Jay needs the rest of the cast to really reflect his miserable, but hilarious life.

Legion of Superheroes: I felt this show had so much potential, but it was unfortunately cancelled very early. I was even more surprised at how quickly they retooled the series for the second season. I doubt the ratings were that bad that they had to immediately jump into "darker" mode.

Koragg of Barbaria: Granted, it only had one episode, but the fact that Adult Swim didn't pick it up despite positive fan reaction is quite sad. I take solace in the fact that Metalacolypse shares some similarities, but I'd still love to see more of Koragg's pillaging and gratuitous violence.

Sheep in the Big City: It was very different from the Cartoon Cartoon's of the time, and the wordplay was so funny. I missed the end of the series so I don't even know if Sheep ever gets Farmer John and the army off his back.

There's also a couple of series which I'd be more content with a TV movie with closure rather than a full-on revival:

Hey Arnold - The mystery of his parents and his last name still bother me to this day.
Teen Titans - Last episode is one huge wtf.
Spider Man:The Animated Series - I wanna see that time travel plot that they were going to use to have Peter save Mary-Jane.
 
Several folks have mentioned Gargoyles -- though this would absolutely require as much of the original creative team as one could reassemble in order to be worth doing.

I was a major fan of the original Dungeons & Dragons, but I don't know that it's aged terribly well. If it were to return, it might do better as a reboot/relaunch as opposed to a continuation of the original.

I also agree that we really ought to see more of the Zeta Project continuity at some point, though whether as a new series or a DTV project remains to be seen (and the current developments in Zeta DVDs seem to me to hint that a plan or two may possibly be in the works).

As to other DCAU projects, I'd like to see something following from Static Shock -- perhaps specifically following up on the glimpses we saw of future!Static late in that series' continuity.

Two shows that have not been mentioned, but which are on my list of all-time favorites:

Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? -- Always fun, and much better-written than one might expect of a series built on such an education-heavy premise. Toward the end of its three-season run, it also developed a surprising degree of emotional complexity, ending not quite on a cliffhanger but on an odd emotional note. I'd very much like to see another season or two building on that complexity and ambiguity.

Jackie Chan Adventures -- This is a little tricky; the animation was never particularly outstanding, and the fifth season's introduction of "Drago" as primary antagonist was ill-executed, but the overall writing and series design was wonderfully entertaining -- martial arts adventure, Indiana Jones artifact hunting, and Muppet-esque comedy gold. At this point, a sequel-series or spinoff might do better than a straight revival, but I think there's more gold to be mined from the franchise.
