Cancel current contract under family plan for upgrade eligibility?

Today I found out that if I want an iPhone4, I am going to have to wait until February. That was disappointing :sad:

So, I'm wondering if I can pay the ETF for my contract (should be ~$100 prorated), and sign right back with a new 2 year contract with the iPhone 4 (still on family plan)? Will I be able to keep my current phone number?
 
If you sign up again within 59 days your old account and contract would be reinstated and the ETF will be credited back to your account. If you wait 60 days you would be without service for that long and you would lose your number.
