Canadian labour lawyers: I need advice?

I've been dismissed by my manager after 3 years of employment. Initially, back in January, he asked me to go on Leave of Absence to see if things got better throughout the year. The thing is that this Leave of Absence had to requested by me (the employee), which I never did. The other option he gave me was to be laid off completely. The Leave of Absence "expired" in July and they offered me to "renew" it for 3 additional months. The manager who initially "offered" me to go on Leave of Absence was assigned to another location but now he is back and has dismissed me by e-mail telling me that Human Resources has told him that my Leave of Absence has expired and because there's no project available for me in the short term, "they" have no choice but to lay me off.

1. I never signed any letter of Leave of Absence (that is a requirement; there's no document in which I requested or accepted to go on Leave of Absence).

2. His boss was in charge of the department when he (my manager) was assigned to another location. I was in permament contact with his boss directly during this time and this person was telling me to "hang in there" because new projects were coming in. Two weeks before my manager came back to the office again, the business development department requested my updated resume for these new projects.

3. The "renewed" Leave of Absence was supposed to end by the end of October.

Kindly provide your advice.
