...bought the child as a gift? Also - Would like answered for American law. Can a parent take away something they bought for the child or can the child claim it as property - disallowing the parents to take the item away (ie: Laptop)
Note: I am 23 years old, I'm not some kid asking to build a case against my parent.
Actually my younger sister who still lives with our mother is 14 - and claiming the laptop that she was bought was a gift and under the law that means it's her property and it can't be taken from her.
She claims that she will not physically let my mother take the laptop because she has no legal right to do so.
So - you cannot legally own property until you are 18? In both Canada and US?
Can anyone point to a specific law code that I can look up?
