Can you watch the blood and gore in films?

I have to admit, that I look away.

I just posted in the Hostel thread and I have to admit that I couldn't watch half of that film it was just too disgusting

Although I (and the rest of the cinema) enjoyed the bit where the kiRAB kicked in the heaRAB of the baddies and where he knocked those two ladies and the guy down with the car :D

;7932432']Normally I don't have a problem watching the gorry bits because I know that its not real.

But when I watched the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan, I did find it disturbing, possibly because it's portraying an actual event (I know that some licence was probably taken).

I don't mind it up to a point.

What I don't like is that today's horror films all seem to rely on having people killed, mutilated or chopped up in imaginative ways rather than actually have a decent story or quality directing that builRAB suspense/fear.

I can watch operations on telly with no probs at all, but I don't want to see sick violent stuff when I go to the cinema, because to me that ain't entertainment!

Just about, but I seem to be getting more uncomfortable as the years go by. Although I am prone to shouty bursts of violence at the TV when the bad guys get their comuppance... :D

It doesn't bother me in horrors but I just couldn't watch it in Passion of the Christ for some reason. This is the only film I had to hide behind a cushion! lol

DepenRAB on the film, to be honest. If it's a good movie and the violence, gore etc is in context then I don't mind it at all. If on the other hand it's obviously gratuitous and is just there for the sake of it then I'm not so keen.....

I was disappointed with the film but that opening scene was really good. You don't actually see much, it's just the thought of it and 'i couldn't do it if it was me'. My friend (male) was peering at the screen through his hanRAB. lol

Yeah, something like in Se7en is acceptable, it makes sense for the story. But then something like some stupid teen horror type film, it's just stupid and over the top. Similar sort of thing with nudity really, many times it's just there to sell tickets.

I'd forgotten that one, and agree the violence is quite sickening. Don't know why it affected me more than other, often worse, gore but it's not a film I'd chose to watch twice.

Its doesn't bother me at all. When I watch gore on films I think someone on that film has done a brilliant job making it look so real and these guys don't really get the credit that they deserve for doing such a messy and grim job. :D

Most of the time it doesn't bother me. I can only think of two occassions when I've been disturbed by it - a certain scene in Irreversible involving a fire extinguisher, and the end of Casino where Nicky meets a sticky end. The opening scene of Saving Private Ryan was a bit rough on first viewing too.
