can you use a different brand surround sound speakers with a different brand tv?

I have a Philips tv and want to get a surround sound speaker system. Can I use any brand of speakers or do I need to by Philips?

Yep. We use a projector which is some random brand and Yamaha speakers and it still works fine. It's the same for TV's so you should be good! =)
