can you track an iphone?

can you still track an iphone if the person who stole it gets passed the security code and completely wipes out the phone, like system restore it?
i think one of my "friends" stole it at a party, and if theyre not using it as a phone can i still even track it? i think they wiped out the whole phone cause i cant even call the number.
 
Contact AT&T or whoever your carrier is. They may be able to deactivate the IMEI number on the phone to render it unusable. May not get it back, but at least the thieving sh!t won't be able to use it.
