Can you tie die denim jeans with a color tie die kit?

I really want to tie die my light denim jeans. but I don't want to waste my jeans before I know that the die will work. please help. thanks.
 
Some of the colors might not show as well and your jeans might turn out blotchy or really cool. I think you should try it on a pair of jeans you don't mind ruining or go buy jeans at Marshalls for $10 if you're willing to spend money experimenting.
