Dark-haired Grecian girl
Black robed, sings the songs of May
Walks on paths of pearl
Trailing jasmine all the way
Dew drops fading in the day
In twenty years this girl will run
While holding high a torch
A thousand roads in rain and sun
Through forest drench and desert scorch
She'll run around the world for peace
And visit all the lands
Where'er she runs, conflict will cease
And men clasp old foes' hands
* * * * * * * * * *
The flowers bloom where're she ran
As 'round the Earth she'd gone
To end her race where it began
In Greece, at Marathon.
