can you switch a verizon wireless cell phone number to a us cellular phone?

and still keep my verizon contract. somebody gave me a us cellular phone and i have a contract with verizon. all i want to do is switch my verizon number to the phone
 
No, I believe it has to be another Verizon phone. you can, however, use a prepaid Verizon phone for a post-paid account, and vice versa.
 
No, you can only use Verizon phones with the Verizon network, you would have to have drop Verizon and get US cellular to use that phone then have the number switch to that phone.
