Don't know why you would need a tachometer. The only snag I can see is the computer. That's because I don't know anything about them. I drove my 97 Ranger for 7 years with the check engine light on. As far as the mechanical work, I am sure all parts are compatible.

manuel 5 speed? I have a 1994 ford ranger with the a4ld automatic transmission. its gone bad and needs rebuilding. i don'tt want to spend 2 grand on rebuilding my tranny. theres a 90 version of my truck with a 5 speed that matches my motor. i need to know if i would have to change the steering column, if there are any computer problems i would run into, or anything else i failed to mention. i know im going to have to make holes for the clutch and shifter and thats not a problem and i know it would be good to get a tach. but i need to know if i will hit any snags swaping my auto out for a 5 speed
