Can you still hitch hike safely?

well besides the fact that no one in there right mind would pick someone up off the side of the road and the only ppl who would pick u up would prob be crazy...u prob could do it since u wil have a weapon and ur strong but even then i don't think its really safe
 
you think if i wanted to hitch hike across the united states to california in say a year or so, im a pretty strong male and ill be 20 by then, and i'd probably bring some kind of weapon for protection. But do u think its do-able?

i would not recommend it, it is very very dangerous.
and even if you have a weapon that does not mean you will not get hurt.
my dad used to tell me stories about him hitch hiking and he had been put into some very dangerous situations, and this was back in the day when the world was "safer"
so yeah i really wouldn't recommend it, you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position, and asking for trouble
hopefully you consider my opinion, and if you do decide to hitch hike, be safe & good luck :)
