Can you ruin a built-in Bluetooth adapter?

I have a vaio laptop with a wireless mouse that connects via Bluetooth. I have unplugged my iPhone from the computer (bluetooth enabled) and it's caused the mouse to "short". A bubble alert appeared saying unknown USB device not recognized or something to that effect. The first time I just figured I'll leave it til morning and when I came back it was fine. Then it happened again and I had mess of trouble getting it going but it worked... For like a day. I did some updates and when I restarted the mouse was out.
I've tried restoring, updating all drivers, even did a hotfix... I can get the Unknown USB Device bubble but that's about it. My Bluetooth isn't even picking up my phone now. Is it possible that in whatever caused the original errors could have damaged the adapter itself?
