Can you Recomend a good panasonic/Lumix camera?

I have been looking at www.panachallenge for a while now and would like to start submitting some shots, but fear my little DMC-LC 50 point and shoot will not capture the "artistic" shots I desire.
Is there a Panasonic or Lumix I can get for under $250.00?
I am willing to go with a used unit.......
