can you put road brakes on a mountain bike.?

I have an old solid fork, not the ones that have shocks, and i will be using road wheels because I am building a fixie out of it.
 
Well, yes you can. You will need some brakes that have the correct reach from the pivot point to the wheel rim.

Because you are using a MTB fork with 700c wheels, road calliper brakes should do the job. Cantilever brakes are also available to fit.

Good luck with the conversion. It's something that I have done in the past.
