Can you put a Chevy 350 motor in a 1937 Buick Special?

I'm helping my brother restore a 1937 Buick Special. We've replaced the rusted floor panels and are getting close to doing engine work. The original straight 8 is MIA and we have an almost new Chevy 350 and automatic transmission to put in it and I was wondering if anyone might have some advice on if this motor might be to big or need some special consideration when dropping it in.
My main concern is width. I'll need to see, but from what I can tell the original engine was fairly narrow, and the original steering column might be in the way of the 350. I'll check into the possibility of subframing it, but we'd like to keep the car as original as is practical and the steering linkage and front suspension is all in good shape if we can get the front brakes working.
 
yes it can be done two different ways ,if you sub frame it with an old monte carlo front frame section then its really easy to install the 350 in it,or it can be did with the original frame and what you have ,sub-framing is good though because it gives you the opportunity to have disc brakes and an updated front end,i have done a lot of older cars like that and sub -framing is the best way to go,all you need is an old donor car ,and the papers are full of them these days,buy the whole car though and this way you can update the steering wheel with all the other things,and i think the frame measurements on those are real close,good luck.
