Can you prevent the Droid from syncing the Google SPAM folder through IMAP?

Can you prevent the Droid from syncing the Google SPAM folder through IMAP? I have my Droid set up to sync with my Gmail Web account and my Outlook account on my computer. Everything works fine, but it syncs the SPAM folder which gets hundreds of e-mails per day. I want to be able to sync all folders but the SPAM folder and leave the SPAM folder on my computer and/or on my Web account but off the Droid.

Any ideas?

Hi MrHappyGoLucky12, and welcome to the AC forums.

You can't on the stock Email app. Just curious why you're not using the GMail app as you can specify which folders (labels) to download on that.

It's been a while, but if I recall correctly the free Email app K9 on the Market allows you to specify which folders to download. It's almost exactly the same as the standard Email app (it was based on the same source code), but has some additional features.

Thanks for the reply! I'm new to the Droid, and didn't realize I could use the Gmail app to sync IMAP folders because the instructions on Google tell you to use the stock e-mail app (or don't specify the Gmail app): http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=114408

I tried the Gmail app. I see that you can select which labels are synced, but you cannot set it up with IMAP to sync with Microsoft Outlook on my computer, can you?

No, sorry. I didn't mean to confuse matters further. You mentioned the "Google Spam" folder, so I assumed you were trying to connect to GMail, which, of course, the GMail app is the one for the job.

If you want to connect to any other email system (i.e. not GMail) then you'll have to use the standard Email app, or one of it's replacements like K9.

Of course, if you have both systems, you can also use both apps - GMail for your Google mail account and Email for all your other email accounts.

I am trying to connect to Gmail. I have two Gmail addresses that are set up on my computer via IMAP in Outlook. I want to sync those two accounts on my Droid, minus the SPAM folder. If the standard e-mail app won't do it, you said you think K9 does allow to you select which labels/folders to sync?

Specific support in Android 2.0 was added for multiple GMail accounts so I imagine you can use the GMail app for this. But I'm still stuck on 1.6 so I don't know how to set that up.

The GMail app is far superior to Email and K9, so try setting that up first.
