Can you name this PHP code?

That isn't using PHP. If you wish to try this, you would have to search around for a JavaScript addon in order to do this. I have forgotten the one I used once off hand but I can have a look around.
 
I am making a PHP, html based website. what i would want to know is, what do you call this...

A home page is display when you open the site, and when you click on a link a new page opens but not in a "new page" exactly,it opens on the same page overlapping the old one, so the home page is darkened and a new "pop-up" like page appears, what do you call that?
