I've an aquaintence who's in a bit of a pickle with remebering a book title and I was hoping that some knowledgable yahoo! answers contributers could help in trying to find the name of this book. From what i've been told, the story goes something like this:
The protagonist(a male) is kidnapped in his youth by a nomadic group of peoples. Eventually he makes his escape and somehow ends up at a school of music only to find it seemingly vaccant. Upon further exploration he finds that the Master of the school who is deathly ill. The master's daughter, in an attempt to prolong her fathers life, makes a deal with some sort of god of the underworld...or something. So she spends days on ends in the realm of the dead and while she is there her father's condition improves. The protagonist decides to try and liberate the girl from the curse. Apparently, the protagonist is able to change appearence and work magic by singing and his goal is to sing a song that will bring the daughter back from the underworld. Very later on in the story he learns how to shapeshift and a group of peoples in the story worship an Owl statue.
I've never read this book but it sounds very interesting so I'd like to know the title almost as much as my aquaintence would.
