Can you make salt water for fish?

My family bought fresh water but i want a salt water aquarium. Can't you like buy a little packet with salt or something in it and mix it in with water? I thought you could. Help?

they do, but if you have no experience with any kind of fish, i suggest starting with a freshwater tank. marine tanks are very expensive. i have a 30 gallon biocube. my price range is about, 400$ in equiptment, 200$ in corals and 300$ in fish. almost 1000$. the wrong move may kill everything in your tank. i was just like you. i wanted a marine tank too, but i only had enough for for a freshwater tank. now i have a marine tank and have about 100$ in dead fish. i'm getting better though =) . all i am saying is that marine tanks are VERY expensive. good luck and make the right choice =)

Of coarse. Where do you think people who have saltwater aquariums get the water?

you can't use table salt you just have salty water, You need special salt mix to have Saltwater. Besides having a Saltwater tank takes way more than just the salt. If you put a "little packet of salt" in your family's fresh water tank you'll kill the fish.
Go get a book or 2 and read up on keeping saltwater fish before you attempt to set up a tank.
